Incontinence and MS

Incontinence and MS

We recently chatted with Nicole, who experiences issues with continence as part of her MS diagnosis.

How have continence issues impacted your life?

It’s had a pretty significant effect on my relationship. My partner is amazing but I’m wearing a liner 24/7 so this obviously has affected our sex life and intimacy. It’s not at all like it was. Going out and having to watch how much I drink or how far I will be traveling without a toilet around gives me anxiety.

How long have you been accessing the Plus Continence service?

I reached out to MS Plus at the start of the year and the put me in touch with Plus Continence Nurse Fiona Easton.

What has your experience been/how has the service impacted your life?

Fiona was amazing. So kind and compassionate. She made me realise the issues I was having were actually MS related and are completely normal. Just having someone to listen and hold space for me made me feel seen and validated.

What would your advice be to anyone experiencing continence issues due to MS?

Do lots of research and try everything. I’m now doing Pilates and it’s had a huge impact on my pelvic strength and overall MS. Find someone like Fiona at MS Plus to talk with as I find half the shame was in my lack of knowledge. She had so many useful ideas and helped me understand products and services available.

I was so grateful MS Plus was there to help me. It was a service I didn’t know I needed untiI I found them.
