Can't Catch Me Now

Deanna Renee

2025
Mixed-media digital collage created using my own MRI brain scans, high-resolution photography, and real flowers.

Living with MS can sometimes feel like a storm, unpredictable, isolating, and relentless. The early days of my diagnosis were filled with fear, uncertainty, and grief. But something shifted when I began making art; especially using my own MRI scans and those of others living with MS. Much like the song Can’t Catch Me Now by Olivia Rodrigo speaks to themes of presence, resilience, and being everywhere, creating MRI art has helped me reclaim parts of myself that MS tried to take. The scans that once terrified me have become tools of self-expression. What once felt clinical and cold is now a colourful testament to my resilience filled with meaning. Lately I’ve been taking mindful walks and collecting flowers and leaves to surround my MRIs with elements of nature, a gentle reminder to myself of deep healing, and that not everything has to be digitally perfect all the time.
