El-ahrairah

BRT clay, copper carbonate oxide, verdigris glaze

This is the first sculpture I made in clay. I named him after the mythical trickster rabbit celebrated as a clever ‘Prince with 1000 enemies’ in ‘Watership Down’, by Richard Adams. I wanted to grasp the feeling of the character in a form that tips its hat to a modernist influence. He is hand built from coils of BRT clay, and treated with copper carbonate and verdigris glaze. It was a joy to build - learning a bunch of different techniques (coiling, slab building, pinch pots etc) and combining them all to achieve the outcome I had imagined. I love him.
