Honey in the Rock

Lauri Marshall

2025
Acrylic on canvas

Honey in the Rock is a vibrant exploration of strength, grace, and unexpected sweetness found in the most unlikely places. Using layered acrylics and textured brushwork, the painting draws inspiration from the ancient metaphor of honey flowing from solid rock a symbol of provision, hope, and resilience in the face of adversity. Rich earth tones and golden hues merge to evoke both hardship and healing, the harshness of stone softened by the promise of something nourishing within. This work is deeply personal, reflecting the journey of myself living with Multiple Sclerosis. MS can feel like an unyielding terrain difficult, unpredictable, and often invisible to others. Yet, amid the struggle, moments of joy, growth, and clarity emerge like honey from rock. The painting becomes a visual testament to endurance a reminder that beauty and strength can arise even in the hardest seasons, and that sweetness can be found in a body that continues to fight.
