My Takeaway of Ireland

Last year I challenged myself to going overseas on my own and travelling around the UK and parts of Europe. What sweet memories I now have of another place in time. I decided to do a collage painting of Ireland and the visual stimuli that jumps into my head when I recall touring the countryside. Red doors! So many of the little white cottages had red doors. And long woolly painted sheep too. I was blessed with good weather so the vibrant green of the rolling hills were mostly set against beautiful blue skies. I have used sections of photos/brochures/maps and diary extracts brought back as memorabilia. The clouds are actually made from a map detailing all the different county's of Ireland. I was also inspired by some collages I saw in the Modern Tate in London where B&W newspaper cut outs were integrated with hand drawing. This artwork will always remain a treasured piece reflecting a very happy and adventurous period in my life.
