Old Shack
Lucy Makin
2026
Coloured pencil on art paper, A3 size. Original is custom framed.
Surviving beyond it's years, this small wooden shack has bared all weather, down to it's last legs. Two sides are almost completely gone, the wooden panels fallen or broken down. The rust on the roof looks leaky and almost not up to the task, and it reads "worn out" in a desperate plea for help.
This piece represents stress, capacity, invisible illness and emotional as well as physical sustainability. Both the mind and body are wearing thin just from day to day use. And whilst many shacks can withstand the test of time, this one is standing firm whilst at the same time pleading for help.
