Take Flight

Medium, is copper sheeting, metal work tools, filled with wax to stabalize the shapped metal mounted on a framed linen canvas

Take Flight is a hand-sculpted copper wing that captures a singular moment of uplift a metaphor for courage, transformation, and boundless possibility. Crafted with attention to both grace and structure, the sculpture echoes nature’s elegance while embracing the enduring strength of metalwork. The wing’s form suggests not only motion but intention an invitation to rise, to evolve, and to pursue new horizons. Through the interplay of light on copper's warm surface, Take Flight invites viewers to reflect on their own journeys and the moments that define their ascent. This piece also symbolises the emotional and physical journey of living with Multiple Sclerosis. The sculpted wing, though forged from resilient copper, reveals subtle textures and bends echoes of struggle, adaptation, and perseverance. Just as MS can disrupt balance and movement, Take Flight embodies the tension between limitation and liberation. It reflects the strength required to rise each day, to redefine one’s own version of flight, and to find beauty in resilience. Through its form, the sculpture honors those who navigate the unseen battles of chronic illness while continuing to soar in their own way.
