The Two Sides of Me

Robyn Selem

2026
Acrylic on canvas, impasto

Another theme set by my Art Therapy group was to produce an abstract painting exploring the use of textures and tools. With no subject matter in mind, abstraction simply lets your hand and mind wander and then it's left to interpretation of the result. What I saw at completion, were 2 figures, with 1 overlaying the other. Could this be me and my very different occupations and interests? People seem puzzled when they learn I'm a Bookkeeper by trade but can also create artwork of a satisfactory nature. Maybe these are my two brains, the left and right, conflicting with each other?? The use of dark green and magenta is one of my favourite colour palettes. Pushing some impact reds into the folds of texture was also necessary to avoid too much uniformity. Maybe it's the two sides of me, but maybe I'll leave that up to audience interpretation.
